JOINING THE MFBCS

The actual final date to register and pay dues for the 2024 season  is 10/26/23.   Should a coach be interested in reserving a team for the upcoming 2024 MFBCS season, he may secure that unselected team by contacting the MFBCS Commisioner and pre-pay dues for the 2024 Season to lock down their chosen team.  At this time we are planning to protect the integrity of existing conferences due to interest from groups of coaches in founding these conferences.

RPI RANKING SYSTEM EXPLAINED

MFBCS RPI Methodology Explained:

Dr. Bob explained that he wanted a few key principals:

  • No subjectivity.  At the beginning of the season everyone is equal and formulaic.  The season will play out for Coach A and Coach B.  The formula doesn’t know that Coach A is a 3 time champion and Coach B is a rookie.  Rankings are all based on points accumulated for wins and close losses this season only.
  • A decisive win is 10+ points.  No additional credit for running up the score (i.e. a 34-21 victory counts the same as a 34-0 victory).
  • There needs to be some points given for tough losses.
  • Who you beat matters – reward coaches for playing and beating successful coaches or playing them close.

Based on these principles, the MFBCS RPI was designed with these calculations:

RANKING IS BASED ON TOTAL VICTORY POINTS + TOTAL OPPONENT WIN POINTS

YOUR TEAM’S NET WIN LOSS POINTS

  • 10 points will be credited to a coach for each victory with a margin of 1-9 points.  12.5 points will be credited to a coach for each victory with a margin of 10+ points
  • 15 points will be deducted from a coach for each loss with a margin of 1-9 points.  17.5 points will be deducted from a coach for each loss with a margin of 10+ points

YOUR TEAM’S OPPONENT WIN POINTS FOR PLAYING A TOUGH OPPONENT

  • When your team beats another opponent it also gets their WIN POINTS added as bonus points.
    • i.e. Coach Daltrey going into the game has 4 wins all by 10+ points therefore he has 50 WIN POINTS (4*12.5).
    • You beat Coach Daltrey by 6 points so now he is 4-1.  He still has 50 WIN POINTS AND 35  NET WIN LOSS POINTS (50-15)
    • In addition to your 10 points for beating Coach Daltrey, his 50 win points also are tentatively added to your OPPONENT WIN POINTS.
    • As Coach Daltrey racks up more wins in the season (let’s say he has 110 WIN POINTS – you’d also get whatever victory points he has for WIN POINTS as your final OPPONENT WIN POINTS.
  • When your team loses by 7 or less points you get 25% of the opponent’s WIN POINTS.  Therefore, in this example if you didn’t beat Coach Daltrey but lost 34-31 you’d get 25% of his season’s WIN POINTS.  If Coach Daltrey ended up the year with 100 WIN points, you’d get 25 OPPONENT WIN POINTS.

Small Change - 3/31/22.  In responding to feedback we made one small tweak.  Once you've played 8 games, we will be using an average of your net points per game played and then multiplying it by 8.  That way everyone over 8 games is evaluated by their overall averages as opposed to a 10-3 coach potentially being ranked ahead of a 9-0 coach just because they played more games.

MFBCS AWARDS AND TROPHIES FOR 2022

At the conclusion of scheduled Conference game play, an Awards Committee which was formed from distinguished individuals with a passion for miniature football  convened to select awardees for all Individual awards to include the Heisman Trophy.   Additionally, the MFBCS coaches were polled to select All-Conference players from their respective conferences, as well as All-American awardees and the Coach of the Year.  All  dues paying coaches had an equal vote.  Awards and Trophies were announced and distributed at the National MFBCS Playoff weekend!
